The first is a international conference on the public sphere to be held on 19 and 20 May in Covilhã, beautiful mountain village in northern of Portugal in which sits the Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI). It will involve researchers from the likes of Theodore Glasser (Stanford University) and Paul Statham (Bristol University), among others. The second meeting is held in Lisbon on 17 and 18 November. The Institute of Ciênciais Sociais e Policy (ISCSP) of the Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) will host the joint conference sections political communications of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) and the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR).
The conference "Public sphere reconsidered "coordinated by Professor João Carlos Correia (UBI) under the project ' two Cidadao Agenda', intends to review the concept of public sphere in the present context of technological change and multilevel governance. Besides Portuguese experts will come from across the Atlantic leading figures such as Wilson Brazilian Gomes (Universidade Federal da Bahia) and Rouseley Maya (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais). To evaluate the effect of 'civic journalism' and other reform movements of journalistic mediation will be attended by Theodor Glasser (Stanford University), one of the major theorists U.S. journalism To discuss the possibility of a European public sphere Guy Haarscher intervene, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Hans-Jörg Trenz (University of Copenhagen) and Paul Statham (Bristol University).
The conference of the IPSA political communication and IMCR , coordinated by the researcher and teacher Paula do Espírito Santo (UTL) will serve for presenting recent research (in progress or completed) on issues related to political marketing , journalism, new media and innovations in communication policies. The deadline for submitting proposals (conference2011@iscsp.utl.pt) is 30 April 2011.
